What is the greatest gift you have received at work? Mine is a coworker opening up. One morning, a coworker stopped by my office to say hello. He did that from time to time. I was very goal-oriented. I had lunch at my desk to "maximize my working hours." As conversations go, I asked him how his night was. He said "I got drunk like every other night. I don't have anyone to talk to so I drink, get happy and sleep." That woke me up. When he left the office, I leaned back and thought of all my coworkers on the floor. I realized everyone was probably going through something. I decided I needed to be more intentional about spending time with people during lunch. Hallelujah, work-life balance.
