I started in leadership when I was in high school. The school principal made me class prefect for years. Then, in college, I held leadership positions in the African Student Association and IEEE. Then, in graduate school, I volunteered at church and mentored a number of students in Nigeria and the US. When I started working full time, I spent several hours a week volunteering for IEEE to improve power in Africa, was still mentoring, and was the VP of an affinity group at work.

Leadership skills grow over time. There are always needs to be met. Prepare yourself for when you are needed by saying "Yes" today to what seems like a small task. Tomorrow, you could be leading several people. Good leadership is learned, even through mistakes. Jump on an opportunity to help today.
