Dear Kayode. This is a powerful and important question. I will have to dedicate a video to it. But for now, a few things. I'll respond to the statement first from reverse. 1. Check why you said "No." If it is because of fear, that is not good enough. We all can accomplish anything if we try and get the right help or support. 2. Always ask for time to decide before saying "Yes" or "No." If you have made an effort to find people to help and have absolutely exhausted all your options, then consider saying "No." 3. However, it pays to fail too! Some of the biggest discoveries of life are made through mistakes. Sir Newton's gravity equations (and other inventions) came by experimenting. Edison invented his light bulb by failing. So, maybe say "Yes" anyway: failure makes you more creative. 4. The real answer is weigh the risks. Will your failure lead to a fatality? Will your company lose an insurmountable sum of money because of the mistake? Will you lose your job? Decide on your response based on these. 5. Always do this ---- Communicate to the project owner why you want to say Yes (if you do): what your experience is or is not and your plan to getting it done. Communicate why no: what your experience is or is not and how you think the cost outweighs the benefit. Let the person choose for you and carry the risk! 6. Often times, if you have done well on prior projects, a sponsor or champion in the corporation will vouch for you and carry the risk. So, try to find a sponsor, probably through a mentor or coach. I hope these help!

A follow-up to this would be to look at how professionals can navigate an ever changing workplace especially in Africa. As an example one can have individual integrity and may even work for an organization that touts this as a value...yet have to content with colleagues or superiors who have different agendas.
